Crampon & Ice Axe Hire

 Pre-book and rent ice axes and crampons for your outdoor adventures across Nelson Tasman.

Hire some crampons and/or ice axes from us for winter walking and classic alpinism mountaineering.  The crampons and walking ice axe are perfect for walking on snowy or icy rock. If there is a potential for snow or icy, or if there is more than a dusting of snow on the ground, this is essential kit to take with you - even if it doesn't come out of the bag, it is always safe to have them just in case you need them.  If you are going to Angelus Hut in the Nelson Lakes, check the hut webcam for snow first.

Rental Prices:

Your hire includes strap on G10 crampons compatible for any boot or shoe, and/or a walking ice axe.

The costs of our hire are outlined below:

• Crampons - $15 per night
• Ice Axe - $15 per night
• Both - $25 per night
• Helmet - $10 per night
• All - $30 per night

There is a late return charge if returned late.

Requirements:

• Hire can be booked in advance, and must be booked on here.
• Must be 18 years or older to rent.
• Signed rental agreement required.
  

How It Works:

1. Reserve Online: Select your rental period and complete the booking process below.
2. Receive Your Gear: Pick up in-store from MD Outdoors during our open hours
3. Enjoy Your Adventure: Check your gear fits and you know how to use it and enjoy your outdoor adventure.
4. Return: Drop off at MD Outdoors when you are done. Pick up and drop off available from Nelson.

Charges

Our gear hire is charged per night, based on the number of nights you have the equipment.

• Pick-up: Collect your gear on your selected pick-up date.
• Return: Return your gear before the shop closes on your selected return date.
• Hire charges: You pay for each night you have the gear.
• Minimum hire: One night.
• Late charges: $15 per day will be charged per day you bring it back late. 

For example: Collect your gear on Friday and return it on Sunday within our open hours  = 2 nights of hire.

We suggest booking online to ensure availability. We may have some available on a walk in basis, but we cannot guarantee availability in store.  We recommend ringing ahead to ensure they are available.
