Location of the Week: Rainbow Ski Field
A local, easy, kid friendly way to get up into the mountains and the snow.
Our beloved local club ski field, Rainbow opens for skiing this weekend, and it’s the perfect time to hit the slopes or simply enjoy a day playing in the snow.
Before you go:
- Check the snow report and webcams each morning
- Snow chains must be carried for your vehicles
- Lifts run from 9am–4pm
- Book ski and snowboard lessons online - running every weekend the field is open
Rainbow is proudly owned by members and powered by a few paid staff and many volunteers, so thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who give up their time The person helping you in the car park, serving you in the café, loading a lift or answering your questions may simply be giving up their own time to make the season possible.
If you’re coming up to just enjoy the snow, stay in the designated areas and purchase snow play passes from the ticket office or cafe.
Whether you’re skiing, snowboarding or just heading up for some snow play, we hope you love this little spot as much as we do.

Afterwards, warm up with a hot drink and good feed from the Alpine Lodge, check out the Tophouse ‘Streamside Sauna’ and the ice skating at Teetotal by Ski Sisters NZ - who also do ski tuning and waxing.
